MCFC had seven 7 apps, all with different functionality and look and feel. This meant not only maintenance issues but also inconsistency in the visual language and brand and a disjointed user experience. Customers were missing out on certain features and content as they only used one app. The challenge was to discover the problems, inconsistencies and create guidelines that would consolidate these apps into one without losing any of the key features and align the design with updated brand guidelines and also aligning to both iOS and Android guidelines.
My main task was to audit the UI of each app, compare the differences in UI and understand the guidelines for IOS and Android apps, alongside the sea of competitors. The goal was to create a unified app that would reflect the MCFC brand offer all the necessary features and adhere to the relevant platform guidelines.
Based on our discovery workshops alongside the MCFC team, audits and reviews, we designed created key journeys, MVP proposition and a design system with key screens.
Throughout each stage in the process we worked with the MCFC team as part of our team to make sure their vision and problems aligned with what we were suggesting as the UX team.
A successful consolidation of key UI screens and components that reflected the updated brand guidelines as well as the iOS and Android guidelines which led to the project kick off of a full design system internally at MCFC.
This project highlighted the importance of cross-discipline workshops and working closely with stakeholders/clients. Something that I bring though in my work now. Also the importance of understanding nuances between iOS and Android guidelines. Even down to small things like the difference in share button icons etc. can make a huge difference.
